About seven persons have been confirmed dead and 17 others sustained serious injured in an accident that occurred on Monday, January at the Sagamu/Iperu Remo junction along Lagos-Benin expressway.

The Punch reported that the accident happened at about 2.50pm near the police area commander‘s office at Sagamu.
It involved a Toyota Hummer commercial bus with number plate BDG 789 XJ, which was said to have rammed into a Mazada commercial bus with number plate REE 248 XA.
According to an eyewitness, the Toyota Hummer bus was suspected to be carrying passengers who were returning to Lagos after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
It was learnt that the driver of the ill-fated bus lost control, swerving off its lane and then jumped over the median before crashing into the Mazda bus travelling the opposite direction.
Adegoke Adetunji, the Ogun state sector commander of the Federal Raod Safety Corps, confirmed the accident, saying that a total 28 persons were involved.
He said that seven person lost their lives while 17 others were injured.
A total of 28 passengers were involved in the accident. While seven died, 17 others were injured and were in critical condition. The accident was caused by over-speeding,” Adetunji said.
He disclosed further that the injured victims were taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for medical attention and the corpses were taken to the morgue of the same hospital.
