NIGERIAN LECTURER SENTENCED TO JAIL!

An Iboko Chief Magistrate Court last week convicted Mr. Sunday Orji a lecturer in Ebonyi state College of Education Ikwo of assault and sentenced him to one year imprisonment with hard labour without option of fine.
Mr. Orji a lecturer in Integrated Science through his lawyer, Barr Ununu pleaded an option of fine which the court denied.
Mr. Orji according to sources close to the court has since been remanded in Abakaliki prison custody while his lawyer is making frantic effort to obtain a Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment in order to prepare for an appeal in Ebonyi High Court.
The court processes respect to the trial and judgment of Mr. Orji are been guided jealously on the instruction of Mr. Orji who alleged to enjoy the sympathy of court officials such that our correspondent was denied copy of the charge sheet and judgment as require by law till the time of this report.
Sources close to College of Education Ikwo said that the judgment came as a welcome development as staff were seen in groups, discussing the outcome of the judgment.
A staff who pleaded anonymity told our reporter that, if Mr. Sunday Orji appeal did not succeed and he serves his full term, it will militate against his career.
Another staff who was sympathetic to Mr. Orji said that the judgment was too hash as there should have been an option of fine in favour of the college lecturer.
